The Liverpool Philatelic Society remains one of the oldest Philatelic Societies in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1888, it has held meetings without interruption serving Philatelists in the City of Liverpool. Devoted to the study, research and dissemination of the knowledge of Philately, its members have a wide range of collecting and research interests.

With a merger in 2003 with the Merseyside Philatelic Society, the combined strengths of the two Societies will ensure philatelic needs continue to be served within Liverpool amd Merseyside for many years to come.

The Society holds meetings in the Roscoe Room on the 5th floor in the Central Lending Library, William Brown Street, Liverpool on alternate Mondays from September to June.

Please note that due to the early closure of the Central lending Library, the meetings are held between 3.30 and 5.45pm. Most meetings commence at 4pm.

Unfortunately, there remains continuing uncertainty over the availability of the library which is due to close for redevelopment over the next two years. Hence the programme from January onwards is subject to change.

The Society meets in the William Brown Library which is within the fine civic buildings which can be seen in their pre-cleaned state on the photo. They house the Museum, Library, Walker Art Gallery and are presently undergoing a considerable upgrading to house more Museum displays. The Library itself will shortly be upgraded. Also note the booths for toll collection for the Kingsway Mersey Tunnel at the lower left of the image.
